The Salusbury World Project provides educational, social and emotional support for refugee children attending Salusbury Primary School. We helped develop the brief for the new centre and identified an unused space within the school which could be refurbished. A main objective was to use the space more efficiently: the insertion of a mezzanine provides an office for the centre’s manager and creates a more intimate setting below, for meetings, language teaching and computer use. Generous cupboards were a key requirement for the storage of clothes, toys and other equipment. Finishes were selected to be hardwearing and light reflective.
