This project is for the refurbishment and extension of a 1930’s house in St Albans, including external wall insulation, window replacement and solar panels to significantly reduce energy use. In order to improve the connection of the house to the garden and provide an arrangement of living space suitable for the family’s needs, the existing rear extension is to be rebuilt with full-width sliding glass doors, skylights to bring daylight into the centre of the plan and a green roof. The existing tiled roof is altered to increase the size of the second floor bedrooms, enabling the upgrading of the roof insulation at the same time.
